THE POWER FACTOR

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

The subject of power in Christianity cannot be over-emphasized. While many believers think the subject has become cliché, I believe otherwise. The life of a Christian and Christianity in itself cannot be effectively prosecuted if we leave out the discussion of the power of God. From the scripture above we see something very intriguing.

The goal of the Christian life is to be witnesses of our Lord and Master — Jesus Christ. Christianity is a life of witnessing unto Jesus. In Christianity, we are Christ witnesses, not Jehovah witnesses. And in order to be effective and effectual on this goal of this sacred calling, the master — had to put certain things in place so we can achieve the maximum results. So in the book of Luke 24:49, Jesus gives his disciple an instructive command….And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

Jesus knew that for his disciples to be able to continue what he had secured for man(The Kingdom of God on earth), they needed the power factor. The subject of power is needful and we ought to have this discussion as often as we can. Christianity is warfare. The kingdom of darkness will not allow the Kingdom of God to have things easily. To have victory in your Christian life, you need power. Most of the time when we talk, some myopic Christians will come in with the argument that what is more important is soul-winning and discipleship, and not looking for power. And for such people, what they do forget is that even the act of soul-winning and evangelism requires power to prosecute. Winning a soul requires power. No lasting results in Christianity can be attained without the power of the Holy Spirit. We need power, in all we do, whether you believe it or not.

But then one will ask how does one walks in this dimension of power? The deeds that can be done for one to walk in perpetual power are what I call the power factors. From our opening scripture, we see the Lord Jesus give us the key to power. And that key is the Holy Spirit. The coming of the Holy Spirit into the life of a believer or Christian is secret and key to power…. but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…

You have power once the Holy Spirit resides in you. The Holy Spirit is the gateway to power. And to appropriate this power is by what I call the apostolic blueprint which can be seen in the book of Acts 2:42… And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

These are what I call the power factors.
